Birth Preparation Sessions

If you’ve found your way to this page, I’m going to go ahead and assume that you or someone you love is expecting. Congratulations! We are so excited for this next chapter of your life.

At Texas Pelvic Health, we believe women deserve to feel informed, empowered, and supported going into birth. We want to walk with you every step of the way and help take some of the mystery out of labor, delivery, and early postpartum recovery.

You do not have to go into birth blindly.

You can know what to expect. You can understand what is happening in your body. You can learn practical strategies to help yourself during labor and delivery. And you can have a trusted resource to guide you through those first few weeks postpartum.

Here’s the thing: we’re in a new age of women’s health. Women want to know about their bodies. They want to understand what’s happening. They want to know what their options are and what to expect.

We couldn’t agree more.

Our birth preparation sessions are designed to provide education, guidance, and practical tools to help you feel more confident heading into labor, delivery, and recovery.

Why Birth Preparation Matters

Knowledge is powerful. When you understand how your body works, what labor may look like, and what options are available to you, it becomes easier to make informed decisions and feel confident throughout the process.

Birth preparation is not about creating a perfect birth plan. It’s about helping you feel informed, empowered, and supported regardless of how your labor and delivery unfold.

What Do Birth Preparation Sessions Look Like at Texas Pelvic Health?

At Texas Pelvic Health, all sessions are one on one for a full hour with a pelvic health physical therapist.

These sessions are highly individualized and tailored to your pregnancy, goals, concerns, and birth preferences.

During your session, we may discuss:

  • The biomechanics of birth

  • How labor progresses

  • Positions for the first stage of labor

  • Optimal pushing positions with and without an epidural

  • How to push effectively

  • Breathing strategies during labor

  • Perineal massage

  • Pelvic floor relaxation techniques

  • Movement to facilitate labor progression

  • Partner support strategies

  • What to expect immediately after delivery

  • Early postpartum recovery

  • Gentle exercises that can be started during the first six weeks postpartum

  • Strategies to support healing and recovery

Our goal is not to tell you exactly how your birth will unfold. Every birth story is different.

Our goal is to help you feel educated, prepared, and confident regardless of how your birth unfolds.

  • Perineal massage is a technique used during late pregnancy to help prepare the tissues around the vaginal opening for delivery. We discuss when it may be appropriate, how to perform it, and answer any questions you may have.

  • Bring any questions you have about labor, delivery, recovery, pushing, pelvic floor health, or postpartum healing. We want this session to address your concerns and goals.

  • Not exactly. While there is some overlap, our birth preparation sessions are taught through the lens of pelvic health physical therapy and focus heavily on biomechanics, movement, pelvic floor function, pushing strategies, and postpartum recovery.

  • Absolutely. In fact, one of the biggest benefits of these sessions is helping you understand what to expect after delivery and how to begin supporting your recovery from day one.

  • Many patients find one session incredibly helpful. Others choose to schedule additional visits to dive deeper into specific concerns, practice labor positions, review pushing strategies, or prepare for postpartum recovery. Every plan is individualized based on your goals.
